Overview
Foghorn opened in April 2015 — the first modern craft brewery in Newcastle. Housed in a refurbished historic art-deco warehouse — with exposed roof trusses and a custom 1800-litre brewery on site.
What They Offer — Beer, Tap List & Venue
FogHorn operates a full in-house brewery; beer is brewed on site and served “grain-to-glass,” for maximum freshness.
The taproom features about 16 rotating taps — a wide and varying selection, ranging from session ales and pilsners to IPA's, stouts and more experimental beers.
Some of the regular or popular beers from FogHorn have included:
Summer Ale — a light, easy-drinking ale with US-late hops and German-style malt balance.
Boganaire IPA — a sessionable IPA, with noticeable citrus/pine hop character and bitterness yet drinkable lineup.
Pivo Bohemian Pilsner — a crisp, balanced, European-style pilsner with noble hops (Saaz), offering a classic lager/pilsner alternative.
“The Ideas Beer” — one of their more experimental brews; a wheat-beer style ale that shows their willingness to brew beyond mainstream styles.
FogHorn frequently experiments: since launching, they’ve created 40+ unique beer varieties by mixing styles, adjusting recipes, and rotating offerings regularly.
The venue doubles as a restaurant / pub / brewery bar: seating for up to ~250 people, with a full dining menu, making it family-friendly and suitable for meals, get-togethers or events.
They also host brewery tours - a nice touch if you want visitors to see behind the scenes and sample a fresh brew.
Character & Significance in Newcastle’s Craft Scene
FogHorn is widely regarded as a pioneer of Newcastle’s modern craft-beer movement - one of the earliest to bring a dedicated brewery + taproom model to the city.
Their commitment to variety, freshness, and experimentation — combining core beers (like pilsner, IPA, ales) with rotating seasonals and experiments - makes them a reliable go-to for both “classic drinkers” and craft-beer enthusiasts.
The warehouse setting — exposed brick & roof trusses, industrial-meets-brewpub vibe — plus capacity for large groups, events and tours, gives them a broader appeal: not just a “beer bar,” but a destination for food, friends, functions and experiencing craft beer culture in Newcastle.
