Overview
The Rogue Scholar started as a small-batch brewer under owner/brewer Adam Hardy. After some years wholesaling to pubs around Newcastle, the founders decided to open a dedicated brewpub + live music venue in 2020.

It's also the only one on the list that has a rooftop space. The Rogue Rooftop Bar is open ONLY for special events, performances and gigs. So check out their socials for dates.
What It Offers — Beer, Vibe & Music
On-site brewing supplies the bar’s offerings: 12 rotating taps plus 4 hand-pumps. That means frequent changes and variety, from hoppy IPA's to darker beers and ales — something for many tastes.
The atmosphere is described as a mix of craft-beer taproom and live-music venue: there’s a front bar/taproom + a dedicated gig room out the back.
Live music is central to the identity: they host local artists, open-mic nights, and regular gigs. The founders have emphasised that “beer is the heart and music is the soul.”
Character & Culture
The vibe is inclusive and community-oriented: their aim is to make “customers” feel like “Rocals” (Rogue Locals). They strive for a welcoming, “unconventional” brewpub experience.
The interior sets a tone: exposed brick, up-cycled / vintage-style seating (e.g. refurbished old bus chairs), copper-topped bar — together giving a kind of cozy yet edgy feel.
Why It Matters for Newcastle’s Beer Scene
Because of its dual identity — a brewery and live-music venue — it offers more than just beer: a social, cultural gathering spot that adds diversity to Newcastle’s nightlife.
